Ssangyong vehicles to go CKD

Competitive Supreme Sdn Bhd (CSSB), the sole importer and distributor of SsangYong vehicles in Malaysia has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Automotive Manufacturers (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (AMMSB), a member of DRB-HICOM to assemble SsangYong vehicles in Malaysia.

The official signing of the MoU, held at The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur, was indeed a memorable affair and was graced by top-level management from both sides. The demand for SsangYong vehicles has been very strong and this has spurred the senior management to fast-track its CKD plans. The partnership between CSSB and AMMSB was a natural fit as AMMSB has vast experience and expertise in the assembly of Korean vehicles.

The SsangYong Rexton, which has been the No. 1 selling full-size SUV in Malaysia for more than two years, will be the first SsangYong vehicles to be assembled locally by AMMSB. Plans are also under way for the introduction, of other locally assembled models and variants. CSSB Managing – Director Muhammad Ahmad Fadhil said, “This occasion marks another milestone for SsangYong’s presence in Malaysia. Rapid expansion and growth have become key words within our organisation and we believe that this has allowed us to build a relatively unknown brand into a highly desirable one in a very short time, three years to be exact. We are also very proud of the recognition that the brand and our organisation have received from our customers and the local media. We are also proud to have won awards from our principal in Korea against major industry players from all around the world. Local assembly is the next logical step and will enable us to take the brand to another level”.
